Saturday 7 January – Uluru
Joyfully no 3.30 alarm this morning, still we were keen to do a nature walk at 9am so we headed to the ‘town centre’ to meet our guide. Sadly, however, this was also cancelled. It was not raining as yet, but a pretty grisly day so we had breakfast in one of the cafes, went…

Friday 6 January – Kata Tjuta and Field of Light
We left at 4.30am to see the sun-rise over Kata Tjuta, meaning’many heads’ in the local Pitjantjatjara language. This is a group of 36 large, domed rock formations, approximately 40km west of Uluru. We were driven at great speed by ‘Snakebite’ to a viewing spot where we could see both Uluru and Kata Tjuta wake-up.…

Thursday 5 January – Uluru
Today we had a lie in – hooray! In fact we had a very leisurely day altogether, with the two things we had booked, being cancelled. There is clearly a bit of a staff shortage here. This has resulted in a slightly reduced menu of tours we can do and a few being cancelled. The…

Wednesday 4 January – Uluru
An even earlier tour today as we headed to a distant sand dune called Tali Wiru (meaning beautiful sand dune) to watch the sun rise over Uluru, with rather handsome Jack. Sadly it was cloudy so not much of a sunrise but great to see ‘the rock’ from a different perspective and just lovely to…

Tuesday 3 January – Uluru
Another 4am start! as we headed out on a minibus with Nadine for our first Uluru experience. We were taken to a viewing spot to see the sunrise. We were facing west with the sunrise behind us but it was still pretty amazing watching the sun come up on one side and the impact of…

January 1 and 2 – to Uluru
We had a lovely, low key New Years Day, it was very hot so I had a bit of an admin day, sorting everything out and preparing for the next adventure to Uluru. Sarah had a fearsome essay to submit for her Fine Arts degree before we left, so she locked herself away while Tim…

Saturday 31 December – New Year’s Eve
This morning was a bit of an adventure as I headed off across town to see my lovely ol’ school mate – Lucy Farmer. Walk, train, tram, walk – but I got there! Until this summer Lucy and I had not seen each other since the day we left NFL, after o’levels, in 1977! Almost…

Friday 30 December – Melbourne
Today is Mum’s last day 😔 so we decided to play the tourist one last time and do a river cruise down the Yarra which runs through the city of Melbourne. We met the ‘Yarra Countess’ in the city centre and headed down river through the arts and commercial districts via a very glitzy marina…

28-29 December – Melbourne
We have had such a happy few days in Melbourne and Tim and Sarah have been more than kind. On Tuesday we headed into town to meet ‘the Adams’ Family’ for lunch. So lovely to see Will and Ed and a especially lovely surprise to see Jeff too. So much to catch up on and…

Tuesday 27 December – Flinders
We had a lovely lazy morning, then Tim kindly drove us all the way to Flinders, where we were to have lunch with Sophie Warburton’s parents-in-law, Sally and Justin O’Day. Despite it being Boxing Day there was quite a lot of traffic on the road, however we managed to leave the sprawling city of Melbourne…
