Monday 20 February – back to Sydney

We woke to the most beautiful day and said a sad farewell to out little house. We thought we would drop by the Three Sisters one more time, as we could not really see the third ‘sis’ yesterday in the mist; they were looking pretty glorious today. There was also some black cockatoos in the trees which was a bit of treat, as they are getting quite rare.

The Three Sisters

Aboriginal legend surrounding the Three Sisters, named Wimalah, Meeni, and Gunedoo, is needless to say not a good one. In love with with three brothers from the neighbouring tribe, which was of course forbidden, the brothers decided to capture the sisters. This caused a major tribal battle. To protect the girls, an elder turned them to stone, but was then killed in the battle and no one else could turn them back.

The Blue Mountains

We had one last coffee from the delicious coffee shop and headed to the other side of Katoomba for one last walk down, down, down to the Wentworth Falls. We decided to come back a different way, (always a little risky), but it was rather stunning, walking back along the cliff edge under the rocks (a little challenging on Gibbsy’s vertigo) and then a steep climb back up to Bluebottle who was waiting for us in the right car park, this time.

A few more steps

It was then a sad journey back to Sydney and farewell to Gibbsy – we had had just the best time and it was so lovely to see him again. We talked and talked and talked – while we walked and walked and walked. He really is such a special guy and we all wish he lived closer.

It was lovely to be back ‘home’ with Amanda. Young Freddie was in residence which meant the afternoon was blissfully full of him and after he had been returned to his mummy, Amanda and I had a happy evening drinking caipiroska cocktails and eating sushi. 😍
