Sunday 12 February – Noosa

Sadly our dolphin watching / kayaking trip was cancelled today as the ol’ cyclone is still hovering around causing the sea to be too rough to go out. Very annoying as it looks such a great trip… we hope we might go on Tuesday morning. We decided to head for Noosa, which is perhaps the most well known of the seaside towns on the Sunshine Coast. It is quite large, very busy and not a beauty, but the beach is pretty amazing. We parked the car and went off to buy a hat as I had left my rather nice one on a bench the other day (grr). We then headed off along the beach, where the sea was indeed very rough and swimming not advised, around the corner however was a much calmer beach, but all the same with a huge wind and the wind and kite surfers were out in force and my goodness were they good.

Diana had discovered that the place to watch the sun go-down was the Laguna Lookout, up a hill, overlooking Noosa. So we drove up there to discover we had forgotten the cocktail to sip as it did so. Not daring to give up our parking space – these are at a serious premium here – the only option was to walk down the mountain back into the town to purchase our tinned margaritas. It was quite tight and quite a climb to get back by the appointed time and we almost had to do it on the run in 30 degrees! We made it, with a minute to spare, so not quite the relaxing cocktail sipping we had imagined, but it was a pretty spectacular sunset.

We had made a plan to speak with Phil at 9pm so needed to have a quick supper. We found a nice noodle bar who served me with a pepper beef which almost took my head off. After much laughter, they quietened it down with sweet chilli sauce and it ended up being rather good, but perhaps not the best meal we had. We had a good chat with Phil (also a great friend of Diana’s) who was with William and Cosi in a rough ol’ looking villa in Thailand!
